Given the nature of their work, it is crucial that these organizations work to inform the public policy debate and advocate on behalf of the communities they serve. Working together in public policy arenas, these nonprofits gain recognition as a sector as a core component of our communities, and as leaders. Without the input of the charities that work on behalf of vulnerable or underserved populations, legislators and regulators will craft policies and budgets that do not reflect the concerns of the people or communities they are supposed to serve.
