Job Description

  1. Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and families to assess their risk for hereditary conditions and help them understand complex genetic information.
  2. Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families as they make decisions about genetic testing and treatment options.
  3. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans for patients based on their genetic profiles.
  4. Stay up-to-date on current research and advancements in the field of genetics in order to provide the most accurate and relevant information to patients and families.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including family medical histories and genetic test results.
  6. Educate patients, families, and the public about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and the benefits and limitations of genetic testing.
  7. Work closely with laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely genetic testing results for patients.
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and contribute to treatment plans.
  9. Adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice in all aspects of genetic counseling.
  10. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and attend conferences and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills.
  11. Collaborate with other genetic counselors and healthcare professionals to improve patient care and outcomes.
  12. Maintain a compassionate and non-judgmental demeanor when working with patients and families.
  13. Adhere to all confidentiality and privacy policies when handling sensitive genetic information.
  14. Participate in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about genetic conditions and services offered at UC Health.
  15. Provide support and mentorship to genetic counseling students and interns.
  16. Utilize resources and technology at UC Health to provide the best possible care and support for patients and families.
  17. Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with colleagues and other healthcare professionals at UC Health.
  18. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the workplace.
  19. Attend regular meetings and training sessions to stay informed about organizational policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program.

  • Board Certification By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or The American Board Of Medical Genetics (Abmg).

  • Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In Genetic Counseling, Preferably In A Clinical Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Current Genetic Testing Techniques, Laboratory Procedures, And Genetic Counseling Principles.

  • Strong Communication Skills, Including The Ability To Effectively Communicate Complex Genetic Information To Patients And Their Families.
