- Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients with suspected or known cardiac conditions using specialized equipment and techniques.
- Prepare patients for procedures and explain the process to them, ensuring their comfort and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Monitor patient's condition during procedures and report any changes or abnormalities to the physician or healthcare team.
- Record and maintain accurate patient records and imaging files.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging protocols and ensure accurate interpretation of results.
- Stay current with advancements in cardiac imaging technology and techniques, and implement new processes as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Provide exceptional patient care and maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion at all times.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide clear and accurate information and coordinate care.
- Train and mentor new staff members and students in cardiac sonography techniques and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices for cardiac imaging at UC Health.
Education And Training: A Minimum Of An Associate's Degree In Diagnostic Medical Sonography Or Related Field Is Required. Must Also Have Completed Specialized Training In Cardiac Sonography And Be Registered With The American Registry Of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (Ardms).
Experience: At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience In Performing Cardiac Sonography Procedures Is Preferred. Experience With A Variety Of Cardiac Imaging Modalities, Including 2D, 3D, And Doppler Ultrasound, Is Also Desirable.
Knowledge Of Cardiac Anatomy And Physiology: A Strong Understanding Of Cardiac Anatomy And Physiology Is Essential For Accurate Interpretation Of Ultrasound Images. Candidates Must Have A Thorough Knowledge Of The Structure And Function Of The Heart, As Well As The Ability To Identify Abnormalities And Cardiac Pathologies.
Technical Skills: Proficiency In Operating And Maintaining Ultrasound Equipment Is A Must. Candidates Should Also Possess Excellent Hand-Eye Coordination, Manual Dexterity, And The Ability To Manipulate Transducers And Imaging Equipment To Obtain High-Quality Images.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Cardiac Sonographers Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Interact With Patients And Other Healthcare Professionals. The Ability To Explain Procedures And Findings To Patients In A Clear And Compassionate Manner Is Crucial, As Well As The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Physicians And Other Team Members.
