  1. Design and develop highly scalable, reliable, and secure platform database solutions for Uber's global operations.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide technical expertise for database design and implementation.
  3. Lead the development and implementation of new database features and functionalities.
  4. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues, implement optimizations, and ensure high availability of the platform database.
  5. Develop and maintain database policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data integrity and security.
  6. Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies and industry trends, and make recommendations for their integration into Uber's platform database.
  7. Conduct regular code reviews and provide technical guidance to junior members of the team.
  8. Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the platform database team.
  9. Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of the platform database with other systems and applications.
  10. Act as a subject matter expert for platform database and provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers.
  11. Participate in on-call rotations and provide timely resolution for critical database issues.
  12. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on database projects and initiatives.
  13. Develop and maintain technical documentation for database systems and processes.
  14. Adhere to company policies and procedures, including security and data privacy measures.
  15. Take ownership of complex database issues and drive them to resolution with a sense of urgency.

Job Qualifications

  • Extensive Experience In Database Design And Architecture: A Principal Engineer - Platform Database At Uber Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Database Principles And Be Able To Design And Implement Complex Database Systems That Can Handle Large Volumes Of Data.

  • Proficiency In Database Technologies: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Background In Various Database Technologies Such As Sql, Nosql, And Distributed Databases. They Should Also Be Familiar With Data Warehousing And Data Management Tools.

  • Strong Leadership And Management Skills: As A Senior Member Of The Engineering Team, The Principal Engineer - Platform Database Will Be Responsible For Managing And Mentoring A Team Of Database Engineers. Therefore, They Should Have Excellent Leadership And People Management Skills.

  • Experience Working With High-Traffic Systems: Uber's Platform Database Handles A Massive Amount Of Data Every Day. The Principal Engineer Should Have Prior Experience Working With High-Traffic Systems And Be Able To Design Scalable And Reliable Database Solutions.

  • Knowledge Of Cloud Technologies: Uber's Database Infrastructure Is Hosted On The Cloud. The Principal Engineer Should Have Experience Working With Cloud Platforms Such As Aws, Azure, Or Google Cloud Platform And Be Familiar With Optimizing Databases For The Cloud Environment.
