Job Description

The U.S. Department of Transportation is seeking a motivated and collaborative IT Specialist (Cybersecurity) to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining secure information systems and networks to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DOT data and systems. We are looking for an individual with a strong technical background in network security, system security, and IT risk management. In addition to technical expertise, you must also demonstrate excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain secure information systems and networks to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DOT data and systems.
  2. Monitor security systems and networks for potential security issues and take appropriate action when needed.
  3. Analyze security requirements for new systems and applications and develop solutions to meet those requirements.
  4. Research and evaluate new technology and security trends to ensure the DOT’s security is up-to-date.
  5. Develop security policies, procedures, and best practices for IT systems and network security.
  6. Configure and manage security systems and tools, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption systems.
  7. Train staff on security policies and procedures.
  8. Perform security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  9. Investigate security incidents and breaches, and coordinate with stakeholders and law enforcement to resolve any issues.
  10. Prepare reports on security issues, incidents, and risks.
