Job Description

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Congressional Affairs Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated professional with the ability to build relationships with congressional offices and key stakeholders to advance the Department’s legislative mission. The Congressional Affairs Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to advance the Department’s legislative priorities and for actively engaging with congressional staff and other stakeholders on issues and programs related to the Department’s mission. This position requires a commitment to excellent customer service, outstanding organizational skills, and a willingness to take initiative. Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's degree in a related field, a minimum of three years of experience in legislative and/or public policy, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of the legislative process and experience working in a congressional office are beneficial. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

  1. Build and maintain relationships with congressional offices and key stakeholders to advance the Department’s legislative mission.
  2. Develop and execute strategies to advance the Department’s legislative priorities.
  3. Actively engage with congressional staff and other stakeholders on issues and programs related to the Department’s mission.
  4. Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Maintain outstanding organizational skills and take initiative to ensure successful outcomes.
  6. Understand and stay abreast of the legislative process and relevant policy issues.
  7. Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team to meet deadlines.
