Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Physical Scientist to join the U.S. Department of Commerce. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the department, conducting research and analysis of physical science and engineering principles to support the development of policies, regulations, standards, and processes. The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to excellence and dedication to supporting the mission of the Department.The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Physical Science or Engineering, advanced training in a relevant specialty area, and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in physical science and engineering. An understanding of computer programming and data analysis is a plus. The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research and analysis of physical science and engineering principles to support the development of policies, regulations, standards, and processes.
  2. Develop and implement solutions to complex technical problems in the physical science and engineering fields.
  3. Prepare reports and presentations to articulate findings and recommendations.
  4. Collaborate with other departments to identify and develop new initiatives to advance the mission of the Department of Commerce.
  5. Utilize computer programming and data analysis tools to support research and analysis.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in physical science and engineering.
  7. Fully comply with all applicable Department of Commerce policies, procedures, and regulations.
