- Provide strategic direction and vision for the Office of National Geodetic Survey (NGS) in alignment with the mission and goals of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
- Oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs to support the modernization of geodetic infrastructure.
- Manage and allocate resources effectively to ensure the efficient and timely completion of projects and initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development among staff.
- Stay abreast of advancements and changes in geodesy, surveying, and geospatial information systems, and integrate new technologies and methodologies into NGS operations.

- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with federal agencies, state and local governments, industry leaders, and academic institutions.
- Communicate NGS's mission, goals, and achievements to various stakeholders, including the public, media, and government officials.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards in the management and operation of NGS.
- Evaluate and assess the performance of NGS programs and initiatives, and make recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
- Identify and address potential risks and challenges that may impact the success of NGS operations.
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence in all aspects of the job.
Knowledge Of Geospatial Data And Technology: A Director Of The Office Of National Geodetic Survey Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Geospatial Data And Technology, Including Gps, Gis, And Remote Sensing.
Leadership And Management Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Proven Track Record Of Successfully Leading And Managing Teams In A Complex And Dynamic Environment. This Includes Experience In Budget Planning, Resource Allocation, And Strategic Planning.
Technical Expertise: The Director Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Geodesy, Surveying, And Mapping Principles, As Well As Experience With Modern Geodetic Techniques And Equipment.
Communication And Collaboration Skills: The Director Will Be Responsible For Developing And Maintaining Relationships With A Wide Range Of Stakeholders, Both Within And Outside The U.s. Department Of Commerce. Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.
