Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for a government accountability and policy editor on the National Politics desk to oversee reporting on the federal government and its workforce, as well as some of the most fiercely debated issues spurring legislation at the federal and state levels. We are looking for someone with strong editing skills who can help reporters break news about how the White House is driving its agenda within the federal bureaucracy and execute powerful accountability stories assessing whether the government meets its mission to serve the public. This editor also will lead coverage of the fast-moving fight over access to abortion, both the formation of policies in Washington and in state capitols and the political fallout. In addition, this editor will guide coverage of other significant policy developments in state legislatures.

  • 3+ years of related experience

  • Previous management experience a plus but not required

  • Must be able to execute high-impact and timely pieces in a competitive area

  • Must have a keen eye for fairness and clarity in lines of coverage that are politically charged and complex.
