
Safety Technician

- Conduct regular safety inspections of laboratory and research facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Provide training and education to researchers and staff on proper safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials, chemical storage, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain and update safety records and documentation, including incident reports and safety training records.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
- Conduct thorough investigations of safety incidents and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
- Monitor and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and personal protective equipment.
- Stay current on industry best practices and regulations related to laboratory safety and make recommendations for improvements to existing safety protocols.
- Respond promptly to safety concerns and inquiries from staff, taking appropriate action to address any issues.
- Assist in the procurement and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
- Act as a resource and point of contact for safety-related questions and concerns from researchers and staff.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement safety training programs for new employees and ongoing refresher training for current employees.
- Maintain a positive and proactive approach to promoting a culture of safety within the institute.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and provide recommendations for safety improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the safety manager to ensure the overall safety of the institute.
Knowledge Of Occupational Health And Safety Regulations: The Safety Technician Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Federal, State, And Local Regulations Related To Workplace Safety, Including Osha Guidelines.
Experience In Conducting Safety Inspections And Audits: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience In Conducting Safety Inspections And Audits To Identify Potential Hazards And Recommend Corrective Actions To Ensure A Safe Working Environment.
Familiarity With Chemical And Biological Safety Protocols: As A Research Institution, The Scripps Research Institute Deals With Numerous Hazardous Chemicals And Biological Materials. The Safety Technician Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Safety Protocols And Procedures For Handling These Materials.
Strong Communication And Training Skills: The Safety Technician Should Be Able To Effectively Communicate Safety Procedures And Protocols To Employees And Provide Training On Safety-Related Topics.
