1. Conduct regular safety inspections of laboratory and research facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
2. Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
3. Provide training and education to researchers and staff on proper safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials, chemical storage, and emergency procedures.
4. Maintain and update safety records and documentation, including incident reports and safety training records.
5. Collaborate with other team members to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
6. Conduct thorough investigations of safety incidents and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
7. Monitor and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and personal protective equipment.
8. Stay current on industry best practices and regulations related to laboratory safety and make recommendations for improvements to existing safety protocols.
9. Respond promptly to safety concerns and inquiries from staff, taking appropriate action to address any issues.
10. Assist in the procurement and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
11. Act as a resource and point of contact for safety-related questions and concerns from researchers and staff.
12. Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement safety training programs for new employees and ongoing refresher training for current employees.
13. Maintain a positive and proactive approach to promoting a culture of safety within the institute.
14. Participate in safety committee meetings and provide recommendations for safety improvements.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the safety manager to ensure the overall safety of the institute.
