We are currently seeking a skilled Unit Secretary to join our Labor and Delivery department. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the unit.   1. Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors to the unit in a friendly and professional manner.
  2. Answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate department or individual.
  3. Maintain and update patient records, including admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  4. Transcribe physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  5. Coordinate and schedule appointments and procedures for patients.
  6. Communicate with healthcare team members, including physicians, nurses, and other support staff, to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  7. Order and maintain supplies and equipment for the unit.
  8. Keep the unit clean and organized, including stocking and replenishing supplies.
  9. Follow all safety protocols and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  10. Assist with patient admissions and discharges, including completing necessary paperwork and explaining procedures and policies to patients and families.
  11. Collaborate with other departments and healthcare facilities to ensure smooth transitions for patients.
  12. Monitor and order inventory for medical and office supplies.
  13. Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  14. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
  15. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and HIPAA regulations.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Labor And Delivery Procedures: The Ideal Candidate For The Unit Secretary Position At Tenet Healthcare Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Labor And Delivery Procedures, Including Knowledge Of Medical Terminology Related To This Unit.

  • Experience With Electronic Medical Records (Emr): As A Unit Secretary, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Maintaining Patient Records And Updating Electronic Medical Records. They Should Have Prior Experience Working With Emr Systems And Be Comfortable Navigating And Updating Patient Information.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Essential In A Busy Labor And Delivery Unit. The Unit Secretary Must Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Professionally With Patients, Families, And Healthcare Staff To Ensure Accurate And Timely Information Is Relayed.

  • Organizational Skills: The Unit Secretary Will Be Responsible For Managing Multiple Tasks Simultaneously, Including Scheduling Appointments, Coordinating Staffing, And Maintaining Patient Records. The Ideal Candidate Should Possess Strong Organizational Skills And The Ability To Prioritize Tasks Efficiently.

  • Flexibility And Adaptability: Working In A Fast-Paced Healthcare Environment Requires Flexibility And Adaptability. The Unit Secretary Should Be Able To Handle Unexpected Situations Calmly And Be Willing To Adjust Their Workload As Needed To Ensure The Smooth Operation Of The Unit.
