  1. Perform cytogenetic testing and analysis accurately and efficiently in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  2. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments used in cytogenetics.
  3. Prepare and analyze specimens for chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders.
  4. Interpret and report results to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  5. Ensure quality control and assurance measures are followed to maintain accurate and reliable results.
  6. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive patient care.
  7. Stay updated on the latest advancements and techniques in cytogenetics and implement them in the laboratory.
  8. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  9. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory procedures and results.
  10. Train and supervise new medical technologists and laboratory assistants.
  11. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to provide education and support regarding cytogenetic testing.
  12. Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance laboratory operations and patient care.
  13. Adhere to all regulatory and accreditation standards.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  15. Act as a role model for ethical and professional behavior in the workplace.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or Related Field: A Medical Technologist - Cytogenetics Must Have A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or A Related Field. This Ensures They Have A Strong Foundation In The Principles Of Laboratory Science And Are Equipped With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform Cytogenetic Testing.

  • Certification As A Medical Technologist: Candidates For This Position Should Be Certified As A Medical Technologist By A Recognized Accrediting Agency, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or American Medical Technologists (Amt). This Certification Demonstrates Their Proficiency And Expertise In The Field Of Laboratory Science.

  • Experience In Cytogenetics: Tenet Healthcare Prefers Candidates With Prior Experience In Cytogenetics, As It Shows They Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Techniques And Procedures Involved In This Specialized Field. Candidates With Experience In Other Areas Of Medical Technology May Also Be Considered, But They Should Have A Strong Interest In Cytogenetics And Be Willing To Undergo Further Training.

  • Attention To Detail: Cytogenetic Testing Involves Analyzing And Interpreting Small Changes In The Structure And Number Of Chromosomes. Therefore, A Medical Technologist - Cytogenetics Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Ensure Accurate And Precise Results. They Should Also Be Able To Work With Small Samples And Perform Repetitive Tasks Without Making Errors.

  • Knowledge Of Laboratory Safety Protocols: Working In A Laboratory Setting Requires Strict Adherence To Safety Protocols To Prevent Accidents And Exposure To Hazardous Materials. A Medical Technologist - Cytogenetics Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Laboratory Safety Procedures And Be Able To Follow Them Diligently To Ensure The Safety Of Themselves And Others In The Lab.
