  1. Develop and implement a strategic vision for the jazz program, in line with the university's overall goals and objectives.
  2. Oversee all aspects of the jazz program, including curriculum development, student recruitment, and faculty hiring and training.
  3. Mentor and guide students in their musical development, providing support and resources for their growth and success.
  4. Foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities for success.
  5. Collaborate with world-class faculty to continuously improve the jazz program and offer students a well-rounded education.
  6. Maintain a strong understanding of jazz history and current trends in the industry, and incorporate this knowledge into the program.
  7. Plan and organize events, concerts, and performances to showcase the talents of the jazz program and its students.
  8. Manage the budget for the jazz program, ensuring responsible and effective use of resources.
  9. Serve as a liaison between the jazz program and other departments within the university, as well as external partners and organizations.
  10. Stay up-to-date with advancements in technology and incorporate relevant tools and techniques into the program.
  11. Act as a spokesperson for the jazz program, promoting its achievements and contributions to the university and the wider community.
  12. Continuously assess and evaluate the jazz program to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
  13. Uphold the university's values and standards, promoting a culture of respect, collaboration, and excellence within the jazz program.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Knowledge And Understanding Of Jazz Music: A Successful Jazz Program Director At Temple University Must Possess A Deep Understanding Of Jazz Music, Its History, Styles, And Techniques. They Should Also Have A Strong Appreciation And Passion For The Genre.

  • Experience In Music Education And Program Management: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience In Teaching And/Or Managing A Music Program, Preferably At The College Level. They Should Have A Proven Track Record Of Developing And Implementing Successful Curriculum And Programs.

  • Strong Leadership And Communication Skills: As A Jazz Program Director, The Candidate Must Possess Excellent Leadership And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Manage A Team Of Faculty, Staff, And Students. They Should Also Have Strong Communication Skills To Effectively Collaborate With Other Departments And Represent The Program To External Stakeholders.

  • Musical Proficiency And Performance Experience: The Jazz Program Director Should Be A Skilled Musician With A High Level Of Proficiency In Their Instrument(S) And A Strong Background In Jazz Performance. This Will Not Only Enhance Their Credibility As A Leader But Also Enable Them To Mentor And Guide Students Effectively.

  • Knowledge Of Industry Trends And Connections: To Keep The Program Relevant And Competitive, The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Current Trends And Developments In The Jazz Industry. They Should Also Have A Network Of Connections In The Music Community To Facilitate Partnerships, Collaborations, And Guest Artist Opportunities For The Program.
