  1. Develop and implement emergency response plans to mitigate risks and protect communities in the state of Virginia.
  2. Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response to disasters and emergencies.
  3. Conduct trainings and drills to prepare communities and response teams for potential disasters and emergencies.
  4. Monitor and analyze potential risks and hazards in the state, and make recommendations for preventative measures.
  5. Serve as a liaison between the state government and local communities during times of crisis.
  6. Collaborate with other emergency management specialists to identify and address any gaps in emergency response plans.
  7. Communicate updates and important information to the public and media during emergencies.
  8. Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures as needed.
  9. Manage and allocate resources for emergency response efforts.
  10. Provide support and assistance to impacted communities and individuals during and after disasters.
  11. Stay current on best practices and advancements in emergency management.
  12. Represent the state of Virginia at regional, state, and national emergency management meetings and conferences.
  13. Collaborate with other state agencies, such as law enforcement and healthcare, to ensure a comprehensive emergency response plan.
  14. Conduct post-disaster assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for future responses.
  15. Remain on-call and ready to respond to emergencies at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Emergency Management, Public Administration, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Emergency Management Or Disaster Response.

  • Certified Emergency Manager (Cem) Certification Or Equivalent.

  • Knowledge Of Federal And State Emergency Management Policies, Procedures, And Best Practices.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Diverse Stakeholders And Effectively Manage Crisis Situations.
