Welcome to the exciting world of freshwater fisheries! The State of Virginia is seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our team as a Nongame & Endangered Freshwater Fisheries Intern. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of freshwater species and contribute to the conservation efforts of our state. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, enthusiastic about wildlife, and eager to learn.   1. Conduct research on freshwater species and their habitats.
  2. Assist in the development and implementation of conservation programs for nongame and endangered freshwater species.
  3. Collect and analyze data on the population and distribution of freshwater species.
  4. Assist in the monitoring and management of freshwater species populations.
  5. Educate the public on the importance of freshwater conservation and responsible fishing practices.
  6. Collaborate with other team members to plan and execute projects and events related to freshwater fisheries.
  7. Maintain accurate records and reports on all activities and findings.
  8. Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills related to freshwater fisheries.
  9. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while working in the field.
  10. Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and the public regarding freshwater fisheries and conservation efforts.
  11. Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and facilities used for freshwater fisheries research and management.
  12. Conduct surveys and assessments of freshwater habitats and identify potential threats to species.
  13. Provide support for special projects and initiatives related to freshwater fisheries.
  14. Adhere to all state and federal regulations and laws related to freshwater fisheries.
  15. Continuously seek opportunities to improve and enhance freshwater fisheries management and conservation efforts.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Fisheries Biology, Environmental Science, Or A Related Field.

  • Knowledge Of Freshwater Fish Species, Their Habitat Requirements, And Conservation Strategies.

  • Experience With Data Collection, Analysis, And Reporting.

  • Ability To Operate And Maintain Equipment Used For Field Research, Such As Boats, Electrofishing Gear, And Water Quality Monitoring Tools.

  • Strong Communication Skills And The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Team And Communicate Effectively With Stakeholders And The Public.
