- Assist in the daily care and maintenance of fish populations in the hatchery, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring water quality.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of data to track the growth and health of fish populations.
- Learn and follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of the fish and the hatchery staff.
- Help with the stocking and release of fish into natural habitats, following established guidelines and protocols.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of hatchery equipment, ensuring that all equipment is in proper working condition.
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement strategies for the successful rearing of fish populations.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to expand knowledge and skills in aquaculture and fisheries management.
- Communicate effectively with hatchery staff and other team members to ensure smooth operations and efficient completion of tasks.
- Participate in outreach and education programs to promote the importance of aquaculture and conservation efforts.
- Contribute to the overall mission and goals of the hatchery and the state's aquatic resource management program.
Strong Communication And Organizational Skills, With The Ability To Work Independently And As Part Of A Team.
Bachelor's Degree In Aquaculture, Fisheries, Biology, Or Related Field.
Knowledge Of Hatchery Operations And Fish Culture Techniques.
Experience Working With Fish Species Commonly Found In Virginia, Such As Trout, Bass, And Catfish.
Ability To Perform Physical Tasks Associated With Fish Culture, Such As Lifting And Carrying Heavy Objects, Standing For Extended Periods Of Time, And Working In Outdoor Environments.
