As a Forest Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in monitoring and managing forest health issues, conducting research, and implementing strategies to maintain the overall well-being of our forests.   1. Conduct regular field assessments of forest health and identify potential threats and issues.
  2. Develop and implement forest health management plans to address identified issues.
  3. Monitor and track the spread of invasive species and diseases that affect forest health.
  4. Collaborate with other forestry professionals and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for maintaining and improving forest health.
  5. Conduct research and collect data on forest health issues and trends.
  6. Analyze data and prepare reports on forest health conditions and trends.
  7. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to forest health activities.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current research, technology, and best practices related to forest health.
  9. Educate and inform the public about forest health issues and the importance of preserving and protecting our forests.
  10. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and regulations related to forest health.
  11. Monitor and enforce compliance with forest health regulations and guidelines.
  12. Work with landowners and land managers to promote sustainable forest management practices.
  13. Respond to inquiries and provide technical assistance related to forest health.
  14. Represent the State of Virginia at conferences, workshops, and other events related to forest health.
  15. Participate in emergency response efforts related to forest health crises.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Forest Health Management, Including Experience With Forest Pests And Diseases.

  • Knowledge Of Current Forest Health Issues And Trends In Virginia, Including Invasive Species, Climate Change Impacts, And Forest Management Practices.

  • Ability To Conduct Field Surveys And Identify Potential Forest Health Concerns, As Well As Develop And Implement Management Plans.

  • Strong Communication Skills, Including The Ability To Work With Diverse Stakeholders And Present Complex Information To A Variety Of Audiences.
