- Supervise and manage daily operations within the correctional facility.
- Ensure the safety and security of both staff and inmates.
- Monitor and enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Conduct routine checks and inspections to prevent escapes and maintain order.
- Train and supervise correctional officers on proper procedures and protocols.
- Evaluate and address any security concerns within the facility.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of all activities within the facility.
- Communicate effectively with staff, inmates, and other departments within the facility.
- Provide guidance and support to staff in handling difficult situations.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations within the facility.
- Monitor and maintain inmate discipline and behavior.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Conduct regular evaluations of staff performance and provide feedback.
- Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new staff members.
- Serve as a role model for staff and inmates by adhering to professional standards and ethical principles.
- Attend training and professional development programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Implement and enforce safety and emergency procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Conduct investigations and write reports on incidents within the facility.
- Uphold the mission and values of the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Minimum Of Five Years Of Experience In A Correctional Facility, With At Least Two Years In A Supervisory Role.
Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice, Corrections, Or A Related Field.
Completion Of A State-Approved Correctional Officer Training Program.
Strong Leadership And Communication Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Manage A Team And Maintain A Positive Work Environment.
Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws, Regulations, And Policies Related To Corrections, As Well As Experience In Implementing And Enforcing These Rules.
