- Monitor and patrol the campus to identify and address potential security threats and risks.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to any security incidents or emergencies, following established protocols.
- Maintain a visible presence on campus to deter criminal activity and reassure the campus community.
- Conduct regular security checks of buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure they are secure and report any issues or concerns.
- Monitor and control access to campus facilities, including checking identification and issuing visitor passes.
- Collaborate with other members of the Campus Security team and campus staff to coordinate security efforts and share information.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and visitors to provide information, assistance, and support.
- Document all security incidents, observations, and activities accurately and thoroughly in written reports.
- Stay updated on security procedures, policies, and state laws to ensure compliance and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to campus security.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Serve as a role model for the campus community by demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Campus Security Officer Position At State Of Virginia Is A High School Diploma Or Ged. This Shows That The Candidate Has Basic Knowledge And Skills In Academics, Which Is Essential For Performing Duties Such As Report Writing And Record Keeping.
Law Enforcement Or Security Experience: Candidates With Prior Experience In Law Enforcement Or Security Are Preferred For This Role. This Experience Demonstrates Knowledge Of Safety And Security Protocols, As Well As The Ability To Handle Emergency Situations And Conflict Resolution.
Good Physical Fitness: A Campus Security Officer Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform Physically Demanding Tasks Such As Patrolling The Campus On Foot Or Responding To Emergency Situations. Candidates Should Be Able To Pass A Physical Fitness Test And Maintain Physical Fitness Standards.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Campus Security Officer, The Ability To Communicate Effectively With Students, Faculty, And Staff Is Crucial.
