  1. Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse within state agencies.
  2. Gather and analyze evidence, including documents, witness interviews, and other relevant information.
  3. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality throughout the investigation process.
  4. Communicate regularly with stakeholders, including state agencies, whistleblowers, and legal counsel.
  5. Prepare detailed and accurate reports of investigation findings and recommendations.
  6. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, as needed, to ensure proper handling of potential criminal violations.
  7. Identify potential areas of vulnerability within state agencies and make recommendations for improvement.
  8. Keep up-to-date with laws, regulations, and best practices related to whistleblowing and investigations.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to whistleblowing and investigative processes.
  10. Represent the State of Utah in a professional manner when communicating and interacting with external parties.
  11. Attend trainings, conferences, and workshops to continuously improve investigative skills and knowledge.
  12. Maintain a high level of integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Degree In Criminal Justice Or Related Field: A Whistleblower Investigator At State Of Utah Should Have A Strong Educational Background In Criminal Justice Or A Related Field. This Knowledge Will Be Crucial In Understanding The Legal And Investigative Processes Involved In Whistleblower Cases.

  • Experience In Conducting Investigations: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience In Conducting Investigations, Preferably In A Government Or Legal Setting. This Includes Knowledge Of Investigative Techniques, Evidence Collection, And Report Writing.

  • Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws: Whistleblower Cases Often Involve Complex State And Federal Laws, Such As The False Claims Act Or The Whistleblower Protection Act. The Investigator Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of These Laws And Their Implications In Order To Effectively Handle Cases.

  • Analytical And Critical Thinking Skills: A Whistleblower Investigator Should Possess Strong Analytical And Critical Thinking Skills In Order To Evaluate Evidence, Assess The Credibility Of Witnesses, And Make Sound Judgments In Complex Situations.

  • Attention To Detail And Strong Communication Skills: Attention To Detail Is Crucial In Whistleblower Cases As Even The Smallest Piece Of Evidence Can Have A Significant Impact. Additionally, The Investigator Should Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Interact With Witnesses, Attorneys, And Other Stakeholders Throughout The Investigation Process.
