- Plan and implement recreational therapy programs for individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges in accordance with their individual needs and goals.
- Conduct thorough assessments of clients' physical, emotional, and social needs to determine appropriate interventions and activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans that incorporate recreational therapy activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clients' progress and participate in case conferences and meetings to discuss treatment plans.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for clients to engage in recreational activities and promote their physical and emotional well-being.
- Utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques and equipment to facilitate clients' participation in recreational activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and music.
- Educate clients and their families about the benefits of recreational therapy and provide resources for continued engagement in recreational activities outside of therapy sessions.
- Keep abreast of current trends and research in recreational therapy and incorporate new techniques and interventions into practice.
- Maintain all required licenses and certifications and adhere to ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients and team members.
- Contribute to the positive and collaborative team culture by actively participating in team meetings, offering support and feedback to colleagues, and fostering a sense of community and inclusivity.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, their families, and other professionals in the community to promote the integration of recreational therapy into their daily lives.
- Continuously evaluate and improve upon recreational therapy programs to ensure optimal outcomes for clients and support the overall mission of the organization.
Bachelor's Degree In Recreation Therapy Or A Related Field: Candidates For A Recreational Therapist Job At State Of Utah Must Hold A Bachelor's Degree In Recreation Therapy Or A Closely Related Field, Such As Therapeutic Recreation Or Leisure Studies.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (Ctrs) Certification: The State Of Utah Requires All Recreational Therapists To Hold A Current Ctrs Certification From The National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (Nctrc).
Experience Working With Diverse Populations: Recreational Therapists At State Of Utah Must Have Experience Working With Individuals From Diverse Backgrounds And Populations, Including Those With Physical, Cognitive, And Emotional Disabilities.
Knowledge Of Evidence-Based Practices And Therapeutic Techniques: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Evidence-Based Practices And Therapeutic Techniques Used In The Field Of Recreation Therapy, Such As Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, And Experiential Therapy.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Recreational Therapists Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills In Order To Effectively Work With Clients, Their Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals. This Includes The Ability To Develop And Implement Treatment Plans, As Well As Provide Support And Education To Clients And Their Caregivers.
