Job Description

Welcome to the challenging and rewarding role of Psychiatrist at Correctional Health Services with the State of Utah. As a Psychiatrist, you will play a vital role in providing mental health care to incarcerated individuals within our correctional facilities. We are seeking a highly qualified and compassionate individual with a passion for serving vulnerable populations. The ideal candidate will possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and be licensed to practice in the state of Utah. In addition, the candidate must have completed a residency in psychiatry and be board certified or eligible for board certification.   1. Conduct initial psychiatric assessments and ongoing evaluations of incarcerated individuals to determine mental health needs and develop treatment plans.
  2. Provide individual and group therapy to address mental health concerns and promote overall well-being.
  3. Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications as needed.
  4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for incarcerated individuals.
  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  6. Stay current on new developments and research in the field of psychiatry to continuously improve treatment approaches.
  7. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and case reviews to discuss treatment progress and make appropriate adjustments.
  8. Educate and provide guidance to other healthcare staff on mental health issues and treatment options.
  9. Communicate effectively with incarcerated individuals, their families, and external agencies.
  10. Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  11. Comply with all safety and security protocols within the correctional facility.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information related to incarcerated individuals.
  13. Collaborate with community providers to ensure continuity of care for incarcerated individuals upon release.
  14. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of mental health services within the correctional facility.
  15. Attend relevant trainings and conferences to maintain licensure and stay up-to-date on best practices in the field of psychiatry.

Job Qualifications
  • Medical Degree: A Psychiatrist, Correctional Health Services Must Possess A Medical Degree From An Accredited University In Order To Diagnose And Treat Mental Health Disorders.

  • Board Certification: In Addition To A Medical Degree, The Candidate Must Also Be Board Certified In Psychiatry By The American Board Of Psychiatry And Neurology.

  • Experience In Correctional Health: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience In Providing Mental Health Care To Incarcerated Individuals And Be Knowledgeable About The Unique Challenges And Needs Of This Patient Population.

  • State Licensure: A Valid And Unrestricted License To Practice Medicine In The State Of Utah Is Required For This Position.

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: As A Psychiatrist In A Correctional Health Setting, The Candidate Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills In Order To Effectively Work With Both Inmates And Correctional Staff.
