
Payroll Specialist

- Process payroll for all state employees in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitor and review employee timecards and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including salary changes, tax withholdings, and benefits deductions.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure accurate and timely onboarding and offboarding of employees.
- Calculate and process deductions such as taxes, benefits, and garnishments.
- Resolve any discrepancies or issues related to employee pay, including researching and correcting errors.
- Stay up to date on all state and federal payroll laws and regulations, and ensure compliance in all payroll processes.
- Generate various payroll reports and distribute them to relevant parties.
- Respond promptly and professionally to employee inquiries and concerns regarding payroll.
- Work with external vendors, such as payroll service providers, to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll.
- Participate in payroll audits and provide necessary documentation and support.
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in payroll processing.
- Train and mentor new payroll team members as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information and adhere to data privacy and security protocols.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge Of Payroll Systems: A Payroll Specialist At State Of Utah Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Payroll Software, Such As Adp Or Kronos, And Be Able To Navigate And Troubleshoot Any Issues That Arise.
Familiarity With State And Federal Payroll Laws: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Both State And Federal Payroll Laws, Including Tax Regulations, Wage And Hour Laws, And Benefits Requirements.
Attention To Detail: Accuracy Is Crucial In Payroll, And A Payroll Specialist At State Of Utah Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Ensure All Employee Records And Payments Are Correct.
Communication Skills: The Role Will Require Frequent Communication With Employees And Various Departments Within The State Of Utah, So The Candidate Should Possess Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills.
