  1. Perform laboratory testing and analysis on newborn screening samples to accurately and efficiently identify potential health risks and conditions in infants.
  2. Ensure adherence to established laboratory procedures and protocols to maintain the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  3. Utilize scientific expertise and knowledge of newborn screening to interpret and analyze test results, and make recommendations for further testing or follow-up.
  4. Collaborate with healthcare providers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide timely and accurate information and recommendations for the care and treatment of infants with positive screening results.
  5. Maintain and update laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory to ensure the availability of necessary resources for testing.
  6. Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  7. Stay informed and up-to-date on advancements and changes in newborn screening and laboratory testing methods and technology.
  8. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies in laboratory operations.
  9. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  10. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of laboratory procedures, results, and quality control measures.
  11. Train and mentor new laboratory staff and provide guidance and support to colleagues as needed.
  12. Participate in research and development projects related to newborn screening and laboratory testing, and present findings and recommendations to colleagues and stakeholders.
  13. Demonstrate a commitment to customer service and patient care by providing timely and accurate responses to inquiries and requests for information.
  14. Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all aspects of laboratory work.
  15. Represent the laboratory and the state in a professional and positive manner at conferences, trainings, and other events.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or A Related Field

  • Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Mls) Or Equivalent

  • Experience Working In A Newborn Screening Laboratory Setting

  • Knowledge Of Laboratory Quality Control And Quality Assurance Practices

  • Familiarity With Relevant State And Federal Regulations Related To Newborn Screening Testing And Reporting
