- Perform laboratory testing and analysis on newborn screening samples to accurately and efficiently identify potential health risks and conditions in infants.
- Ensure adherence to established laboratory procedures and protocols to maintain the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Utilize scientific expertise and knowledge of newborn screening to interpret and analyze test results, and make recommendations for further testing or follow-up.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide timely and accurate information and recommendations for the care and treatment of infants with positive screening results.
- Maintain and update laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory to ensure the availability of necessary resources for testing.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Stay informed and up-to-date on advancements and changes in newborn screening and laboratory testing methods and technology.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies in laboratory operations.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of laboratory procedures, results, and quality control measures.
- Train and mentor new laboratory staff and provide guidance and support to colleagues as needed.
- Participate in research and development projects related to newborn screening and laboratory testing, and present findings and recommendations to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a commitment to customer service and patient care by providing timely and accurate responses to inquiries and requests for information.
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all aspects of laboratory work.
- Represent the laboratory and the state in a professional and positive manner at conferences, trainings, and other events.
Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or A Related Field
Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Mls) Or Equivalent
Experience Working In A Newborn Screening Laboratory Setting
Knowledge Of Laboratory Quality Control And Quality Assurance Practices
Familiarity With Relevant State And Federal Regulations Related To Newborn Screening Testing And Reporting
