  1. Facilitate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their hearing peers and teachers.
  2. Utilize strong interpreting skills and a deep understanding of Deaf culture to accurately convey information.
  3. Ensure equal access to education for all students by providing effective interpretation services.
  4. Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
  5. Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity towards the Deaf community.
  6. Collaborate with teachers, students, and other educational staff to ensure effective communication and inclusivity in the education system.
  7. Adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct and maintain confidentiality.
  8. Continuously develop and improve interpreting skills through professional development opportunities.
  9. Keep accurate records of interpreting assignments and maintain confidentiality.
  10. Stay updated on current laws and regulations related to educational interpreting.
  11. Serve as an advocate for Deaf students and their needs within the education system.
  12. Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure the smooth facilitation of communication during educational activities.
  13. Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  14. Follow established protocols and procedures for interpreting services.
  15. Collaborate with other educational interpreters to share knowledge and resources.
  16. Utilize technology and other tools to enhance the interpretation process.
  17. Adapt to changing environments and be flexible in interpreting methods.
  18. Maintain a positive and supportive attitude towards students and colleagues.
  19. Continuously strive to improve the quality of interpretation services and promote inclusivity in the education system.
  20. Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines while on the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Possession Of A Bachelor's Degree In Interpretation, Education, Or A Related Field.

  • Fluent In American Sign Language (Asl) And English, With The Ability To Interpret Accurately And Effectively In Both Languages.

  • Certification From A Nationally Recognized Organization, Such As The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid) Or The National Association Of The Deaf (Nad).

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of The Educational System, Including Laws And Regulations Related To Education And Special Education Services For Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Students.

  • Strong Interpersonal And Communication Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Teachers, Students, And Parents To Facilitate Effective Communication And Support The Educational Needs Of Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Students.
