Job Description

Welcome to the State of Utah's Department of Education! We are seeking a passionate and experienced Early Literacy Coach to join our team. As an Early Literacy Coach, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the literacy skills of young learners in our state. This role requires a dedicated individual who is committed to promoting and enhancing early literacy development in our education system.   1. Develop and implement effective early literacy strategies for students in the state of Utah.
  2. Collaborate with school districts and educational institutions to promote and enhance early literacy initiatives.
  3. Conduct assessments and analyze data to identify areas of improvement in early literacy instruction.
  4. Provide coaching and support to teachers and educators on best practices for early literacy instruction.
  5. Develop and deliver professional development workshops and trainings for educators.
  6. Stay up-to-date on research and trends in early literacy instruction and incorporate them into coaching practices.
  7. Communicate and collaborate with parents, caregivers, and community members to promote early literacy development.
  8. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of early literacy programs and make recommendations for improvement.
  9. Serve as a resource and advocate for early literacy within the Department of Education and the state of Utah.
  10. Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, educators, and stakeholders.
  11. Attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to stay current in the field of early literacy.
  12. Prepare reports and presentations on the progress and impact of early literacy initiatives.
  13. Collaborate with other departments and agencies to align early literacy efforts with broader education goals.
  14. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to early literacy instruction.
  15. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the department and the education system as a whole.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Education Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree Is Typically Required For An Early Literacy Coach Position. A Degree In Education Or A Related Field Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Effectively Coach Teachers In Literacy Instruction.

  • Teaching Experience: Previous Experience As A Teacher, Preferably In Early Childhood Or Elementary Education, Is Highly Desired For An Early Literacy Coach. This Experience Allows The Coach To Understand The Challenges And Best Practices Of Teaching Literacy In A Classroom Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Literacy Development: A Strong Understanding Of How Children Learn To Read And Write Is Essential For An Early Literacy Coach. This Includes Knowledge Of Phonics, Fluency, Comprehension, And Other Key Components Of Literacy Instruction.

  • Experience In Coaching Or Professional Development: Experience In Coaching Or Providing Professional Development To Educators Is A Valuable Qualification For An Early Literacy Coach. This Demonstrates The Ability To Effectively Support And Guide Teachers In Improving Their Instructional Practices.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Coach, The Ability To Communicate Effectively And Build Positive Relationships With Teachers Is Crucial. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Allow An Early Literacy Coach To Effectively Collaborate With Teachers And Provide Valuable Feedback And Support.
