Job Description

  1. Maintain the safety and security of the correctional facility at all times.
  2. Monitor and supervise incarcerated individuals to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  3. Conduct routine cell searches and inspections to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
  4. Communicate effectively with incarcerated individuals, staff, and visitors to de-escalate conflicts and diffuse potentially dangerous situations.
  5. Provide support and guidance to incarcerated individuals, promoting rehabilitation and positive behavior.
  6. Complete necessary paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  7. Monitor and maintain the physical and mental well-being of incarcerated individuals, reporting any concerns to supervisors.
  8. Conduct inmate counts and maintain accurate records of inmate movement.
  9. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  10. Work closely with other correctional staff to ensure a cohesive and effective team environment.
  11. Follow all state and federal laws and regulations related to the operation of a correctional facility.
  12. Serve as a role model of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior for incarcerated individuals.
  13. Assist in emergency situations such as fires, riots, or medical emergencies.
  14. Uphold the values and mission of the correctional facility and the state of Utah.
  15. Continuously strive to create a safe, rehabilitative, and positive environment for incarcerated individuals.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Correctional Officer Job At The State Of Utah Is A High School Diploma Or Its Equivalent. This Ensures That Applicants Have A Basic Level Of Education And Literacy To Perform Their Duties Effectively.

  • Physical Fitness And Agility: The Job Of A Correctional Officer Requires Physical Stamina And Agility To Handle The Demands Of The Job. Applicants Must Pass A Physical Fitness Test To Demonstrate Their Ability To Perform Tasks Such As Restraining Inmates And Responding To Emergencies.

  • Previous Law Enforcement Or Military Experience: Prior Experience In Law Enforcement Or The Military Can Be An Advantage For A Correctional Officer Job At The State Of Utah. This Experience Can Demonstrate An Understanding Of The Duties And Responsibilities Of A Law Enforcement Officer And The Ability To Handle High-Stress Situations.
