  1. Conduct inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with state building codes.
  2. Assist in the development and implementation of building codes and regulations.
  3. Review building plans and permit applications for compliance with building codes.
  4. Provide guidance and support to building contractors, architects, and engineers on building code requirements.
  5. Investigate complaints and violations related to building codes and take appropriate enforcement actions.
  6. Maintain accurate records and documentation of building inspections and code enforcement activities.
  7. Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure building codes are properly enforced.
  8. Stay current with changes and updates in building codes and regulations.
  9. Assist in the training and development of new building code officials.
  10. Communicate effectively with the public and stakeholders regarding building codes and regulations.
  11. Participate in departmental meetings and contribute ideas for improving building code enforcement processes.
  12. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while representing the state in all interactions.
  13. Ensure the safety and well-being of citizens by upholding building standards and regulations.
  14. Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
  15. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and training related to building codes and regulations.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Building Codes: A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And National Building Codes And Regulations Is Essential For An Assistant Building Code Official. This Includes Knowledge Of Construction Techniques, Materials, And Safety Standards.

  • Communication Skills: Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Necessary For This Role. The Assistant Building Code Official Will Be Required To Communicate With Contractors, Property Owners, And Other Government Officials Regarding Code Compliance And Enforcement.

  • Inspection Experience: Previous Experience Conducting Building Inspections Is Preferred For This Position. The Assistant Building Code Official Should Be Familiar With Building Plans, Construction Methods, And Relevant Building Codes In Order To Ensure Compliance During Inspections.

  • Attention To Detail: Attention To Detail Is Crucial In This Role To Identify Potential Code Violations And Ensure Accuracy In Reviewing Building Plans And Documentation. The Assistant Building Code Official Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail And The Ability To Spot Potential Issues Before They Become Larger Problems.

  • Team Player: The Assistant Building Code Official Will Work Closely With Other Government Officials, Contractors, And Property Owners. Therefore, The Ability To Work Well In A Team Environment And Collaborate With Others Is Essential For Success In This Role.
