
Wildland Fire Suppression Specialist

- Monitor and respond to wildfire incidents within designated areas of responsibility.
- Conduct initial fire assessments and determine appropriate response strategies.
- Suppress and extinguish fires using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Perform fire line construction and maintenance to contain and control wildfires.
- Conduct prescribed burns and other fire management activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures at all times.
- Maintain and operate fire suppression vehicles and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other agencies involved in fire suppression efforts.
- Keep accurate records of fire incidents, resources used, and costs incurred.
- Stay up-to-date on fire weather conditions and predict potential fire behavior.
- Assist in training and mentoring new team members.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations and policies related to wildland fire suppression.
- Participate in post-incident debriefings and evaluate response strategies for continuous improvement.
- Represent the State of Oregon's wildland fire suppression team with professionalism and dedication.
- Continuously evaluate and improve personal fitness and mental resilience for the demands of the job.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Wildland Fire Suppression, Preferably With A Government Agency Or Fire Department.
Certification As A Wildland Firefighter Type 2 (Fft2) Or Higher, In Accordance With National Wildfire Coordinating Group (Nwcg) Standards.
Knowledge Of And Ability To Operate Various Wildland Fire Equipment, Such As Pumps, Hoses, And Hand Tools.
Ability To Work In Adverse Conditions, Including Extreme Heat, Smoke, And Rugged Terrain.
Strong Physical Fitness And Stamina, Demonstrated Through A Passing Score On The Work Capacity Test (Wct) And Completion Of The Pack Test.
