  1. Coordinate and dispatch resources to combat wildfires across the state of Oregon.
  2. Remain calm and composed in high-stress and fast-paced situations.
  3. Communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including firefighters, law enforcement, and other emergency response personnel.
  4. Monitor and track fire activity and resource availability to ensure efficient and effective deployment of resources.
  5. Utilize knowledge of fire behavior and safety protocols to make informed decisions on resource allocation.
  6. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all fire-related activities and resource assignments.
  7. Collaborate with other dispatchers and agencies to ensure seamless coordination of resources.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current fire weather conditions, fire restrictions, and other relevant information to make informed dispatching decisions.
  9. Operate and maintain communication equipment, such as radios and computer-aided dispatch systems.
  10. Provide support to field personnel, including relaying critical information and resources.
  11. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of firefighters and other personnel.
  12. Serve as a vital link between the public and emergency responders during wildfire events.
  13. Attend training and professional development opportunities to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
  14. Represent the State of Oregon with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to protecting natural resources and communities from wildfires.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Wildland Fire Management: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Wildland Fire Management Principles, Including Fire Behavior, Suppression Tactics, And Resource Management. This Knowledge Will Be Essential In Effectively Dispatching Resources And Coordinating With Other Agencies During Fire Incidents.

  • Experience In Emergency Dispatch: A Successful Wildland Fire Dispatcher Should Have Previous Experience In Emergency Dispatching, Preferably In A Wildland Fire Context. This Experience Will Demonstrate The Ability To Remain Calm Under Pressure, Make Quick Decisions, And Effectively Communicate With First Responders In A Fast-Paced Environment.

  • Communication And Coordination Skills: Strong Communication And Coordination Skills Are Crucial For A Wildland Fire Dispatcher. The Candidate Should Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Fire Crews, Incident Commanders, And Other Emergency Personnel Both On The Phone And Through Radio Communications.

  • Computer And Technology Skills: As A Wildland Fire Dispatcher, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Using Various Computer Systems And Software To Track Fire Incidents, Resources, And Weather Conditions. Proficiency In These Technologies, As Well As The Ability To Quickly Learn New Systems, Will Be Essential For Success In This Role.
