Welcome to the State of Oregon's Tribal Affairs Director job posting.   1. Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between the state government and the 9 federally recognized tribes within Oregon.
  2. Develop and maintain positive relationships with tribal leaders and members, representing the state's commitment to tribal sovereignty and partnership.
  3. Facilitate communication and collaboration between state agencies and tribal governments, ensuring that tribal interests and concerns are heard and addressed.
  4. Stay informed about current issues and developments affecting tribal communities in Oregon, and provide updates and recommendations to state leadership.
  5. Organize and coordinate meetings, events, and workshops to promote understanding and cooperation between the state and tribal governments.
  6. Act as a resource for state agencies and tribal governments, providing guidance and support on tribal affairs and tribal sovereignty.
  7. Develop and implement strategies to strengthen and improve the state's relationship with tribal governments.
  8. Advocate for tribal interests within the state government, working to ensure that tribal perspectives are considered in policy decisions and legislation.
  9. Collaborate with other state agencies to identify and address issues that impact tribal communities, such as economic development, education, and healthcare.
  10. Serve as a spokesperson for the state on tribal affairs, representing the state's position and policies to external stakeholders and the public.
  11. Develop and manage the budget for the tribal affairs department, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  12. Stay up-to-date on federal laws and regulations related to tribal affairs, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  13. Provide guidance and support to state employees on working with tribal governments and respecting tribal sovereignty.
  14. Foster a culture of inclusivity and respect within the state government towards tribal communities.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion, in accordance with tribal customs and protocols.
