
Park Ranger Assistant

- Greet and welcome visitors to the state parks, providing them with information and assistance as needed.
- Assist park rangers in daily operations, including maintenance, monitoring, and enforcement of park rules and regulations.
- Provide support in conservation and preservation efforts, including trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and wildlife management.
- Conduct educational programs and guided tours for visitors, promoting awareness and appreciation for the state's natural resources.
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
- Collaborate with other park staff and agencies to ensure effective management and protection of natural areas.
- Perform administrative tasks such as record-keeping, data entry, and report writing.
- Assist with special events and programs, including setting up and cleaning up event spaces.
- Continuously learn about local flora and fauna, park history, and conservation practices to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the state parks to the public.
High School Diploma Or Ged: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Park Ranger Assistant At State Of Oregon Is A High School Diploma Or Ged. This Ensures Basic Knowledge And Understanding Of Core Subjects Such As Math, Writing, And Science, Which Are Essential For This Role.
Experience In Outdoor Recreation: Candidates For This Position Should Have A Strong Interest In And Knowledge Of Outdoor Recreation Activities Such As Hiking, Camping, And Wildlife Observation. Experience In These Areas Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Assist And Educate Visitors In The Park.
Customer Service Skills: As A Park Ranger Assistant, You Will Be Interacting With Visitors On A Daily Basis. Excellent Customer Service Skills Are Essential For This Role, As You Will Need To Be Able To Communicate Effectively, Provide Information, And Handle Any Complaints Or Concerns That May Arise.
Physical Fitness: The Job Of A Park Ranger Assistant Requires Physical Stamina And The Ability To Work In Various Weather Conditions. Candidates Should Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform Tasks Such As Hiking, Lifting, And Carrying Equipment.
Knowledge Of Park Regulations And Safety Procedures: A Park Ranger Assistant Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Park Regulations And Safety Procedures To Ensure The Safety Of Visitors And Protection Of Natural Resources.
