
Highway Maintenance Specialist

- Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to repair and maintain road surfaces, including filling potholes, patching cracks, and resurfacing damaged areas.
- Install and repair traffic signs, ensuring they meet state and federal regulations and are visible and legible for drivers.
- Respond to emergency situations such as accidents, fallen trees, and severe weather conditions to clear roadways and ensure safe passage for drivers.
- Conduct routine inspections of highways to identify and report any potential hazards or maintenance needs.
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and machinery, including but not limited to, trucks, plows, and other specialized vehicles.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by properly storing tools and equipment and disposing of waste and debris.
- Keep detailed records of work performed, including materials used, time spent, and any issues encountered.
- Collaborate with other team members to plan and execute road maintenance projects effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, and supervisors to provide information and address any concerns related to highway maintenance.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of yourself and others while working on highways.
- Stay up-to-date on new techniques, equipment, and regulations related to highway maintenance to continuously improve performance and efficiency.
- Work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks within designated timeframes and meet established goals and objectives.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and the ability to drive various types of vehicles and equipment required for the job.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and reliability, including consistently showing up on time and completing assigned tasks to the best of your ability.
- Work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather, to ensure the safety and functionality of highways.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For This Position. Additional Education Or Training In Construction, Road Maintenance, Or Related Fields May Also Be Preferred.
Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License With A Clean Driving Record Is Necessary For This Job. This Is Important As The Highway Maintenance Specialist Will Be Responsible For Operating Heavy Equipment And Driving On Public Roads.
Experience In Highway Maintenance: Prior Experience In Highway Maintenance Or Related Fields Is Highly Desirable For This Position. This May Include Experience With Road Construction, Snow Plowing, Sign Installation, Or Other Relevant Tasks.
Knowledge Of Safety Regulations: A Thorough Understanding Of Safety Regulations And Procedures Is Crucial For A Highway Maintenance Specialist. This Includes Knowledge Of Proper Equipment Operation, Traffic Control, And Safe Work Practices.
Physical Fitness: This Job Often Requires Strenuous Physical Labor, Such As Lifting Heavy Objects, Operating Equipment, And Working In Various Weather Conditions. Therefore, Candidates Should Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform These Tasks Efficiently And Safely.
