  1. Conduct geological surveys and investigations to identify potential hazards and risks associated with development projects.
  2. Utilize knowledge of engineering principles to assess the impact of geological hazards on infrastructure and make recommendations for mitigation.
  3. Collaborate with other team members, including geologists, engineers, and project managers, to develop comprehensive plans for managing geological risks.
  4. Conduct site evaluations and provide expert advice on geological issues to support decision-making processes.
  5. Prepare reports, maps, and other documentation outlining geological findings and recommendations.
  6. Stay current on industry developments and advancements in technology to continually improve processes and procedures.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and developers, to promote effective communication and collaboration.
  8. Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff members.
  9. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to geological hazards and sustainable development.
  10. Represent the Department of Geology and Mineral Industries at meetings, conferences, and other events to promote awareness of geological issues and the department's mission.
  11. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all activities and findings.
  12. Monitor and manage project budgets and timelines.
  13. Conduct field work, including site visits and data collection, as needed.
  14. Continually assess and improve processes and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  15. Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all aspects of work.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Geology Or Related Field: A Strong Educational Background In Geology Is Essential For An Engineering Geologist Position At State Of Oregon. This Degree Should Include Coursework In Areas Such As Structural Geology, Hydrogeology, And Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Professional Geologist (P.g.) Certification: State Of Oregon Requires All Engineering Geologists To Hold A P.g. Certification. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Knowledge And Expertise In The Field Of Geology.

  • Experience In Geotechnical Investigations: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience Conducting Geotechnical Investigations And Assessments. This Will Include Experience With Site Characterization, Subsurface Exploration, And Slope Stability Analysis.

  • Knowledge Of Relevant State And Federal Regulations: A Successful Engineering Geologist At State Of Oregon Must Have A Strong Understanding Of State And Federal Regulations Related To Geology, Engineering, And Environmental Protection. This May Include Knowledge Of The Oregon Revised Statutes, The Clean Water Act, And The National Environmental Policy Act.

  • Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: As An Engineering Geologist At State Of Oregon, You Will Be Working With A Variety Of Stakeholders, Including Other Geologists, Engineers, And Government Officials. Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Essential For Effectively Collaborating On Projects And Presenting Findings To Various Audiences.
