Job Description

Welcome to the Oregon State Correctional Facility! As a Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our facility, staff, and inmates.   1. Maintain the safety and security of the Oregon State Correctional Facility, its staff, and inmates.
  2. Monitor and supervise inmate activities and behavior, ensuring compliance with facility rules and regulations.
  3. Conduct regular checks and inspections of inmate living areas, common areas, and facilities to ensure safety and security.
  4. Respond to emergencies and security breaches, taking appropriate action to maintain order and safety.
  5. Communicate effectively with inmates and staff, using verbal and written communication skills to de-escalate conflicts and maintain a professional demeanor.
  6. Maintain accurate records and reports related to inmate behavior, incidents, and facility operations.
  7. Uphold a strong sense of integrity and responsibility, acting as a role model for inmates and colleagues.
  8. Collaborate with other correctional officers and staff to develop and implement strategies for maintaining a safe and rehabilitative environment.
  9. Attend and participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  10. Adhere to all state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to the operation of a correctional facility.
  11. Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of oneself and others.
  12. Treat all individuals with respect and dignity, regardless of their background or circumstances.
  13. Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  14. Continuously monitor and evaluate security procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  15. Serve as a positive representative of the Oregon State Correctional Facility and its mission to rehabilitate and reintegrate inmates back into society.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For The Position Of Correctional Officer At The State Of Oregon Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Can Effectively Communicate And Comprehend Written Policies And Procedures.

  • Completion Of Basic Corrections Academy: Candidates Must Have Successfully Completed A Basic Corrections Academy Program Approved By The Oregon Department Of Public Safety Standards And Training (Dpsst) Prior To Applying For The Position. This Ensures That Candidates Have Received Training In Correctional Procedures, Use Of Force, And Other Important Skills Necessary For The Job.

  • Physical And Mental Fitness: Correctional Officers Must Be Physically And Mentally Fit To Perform The Duties Required Of The Job. Candidates Will Be Required To Pass A Physical Fitness Test And Undergo A Psychological Evaluation To Ensure They Can Handle The Physical And Mental Demands Of The Job.

  • No Criminal Record: Candidates Must Have A Clean Criminal Record, With No Felony Convictions, And No History Of Domestic Violence. Due To The Nature Of The Job, A Background Check Will Be Conducted On All Candidates To Ensure They Are Suitable For The Position.

  • Good Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Correctional Officers Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Interact With Inmates, Colleagues, And Other Law Enforcement Personnel. They Must Also Have The Ability To Remain Calm And Composed In Stressful Situations And Have Good Conflict Resolution Skills.
