Job Description

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a MassDOT Bridge Inspector III at the State of Massachusetts. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our state's bridges, while utilizing your expertise and knowledge to assess and maintain these vital structures. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional who meets the necessary qualifications and is ready to take on this important responsibility.

  1. Conduct routine and specialized inspections of bridges and other transportation structures in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  2. Identify and document any structural deficiencies or safety hazards found during inspections.
  3. Develop and maintain thorough and accurate inspection reports and records.
  4. Recommend and implement appropriate maintenance and repair actions to address identified issues.
  5. Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to review and approve bridge design plans and construction methods.
  6. Conduct load ratings and analysis of bridges to ensure they can safely support the expected traffic load.
  7. Monitor and assess the condition of existing bridges and make recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement when necessary.
  8. Stay up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and advancements in bridge inspection technology.
  9. Assist in training and mentoring junior bridge inspectors as needed.
  10. Serve as a liaison between the State of Massachusetts and other agencies, contractors, and the public regarding bridge inspections and maintenance.
  11. Conduct emergency inspections and respond to critical situations as needed.
  12. Collaborate with other departments and agencies to develop and implement policies and procedures related to bridge inspection and maintenance.
  13. Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed about best practices and new developments in bridge inspection.
  14. Conduct research and gather data to support budget planning and project proposals.
  15. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety protocols and regulations.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Civil Engineering Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Bridge Inspection, Design, Or Construction.

  • Possession Of A Valid Professional Engineer (Pe) License In The State Of Massachusetts.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of State And Federal Bridge Inspection Standards And Procedures.

  • Ability To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With Team Members And Other Stakeholders.
