  1. Monitor and supervise inmates in a correctional facility, ensuring their safety and security at all times.
  2. Enforce rules and regulations within the facility to maintain order and discipline among inmates.
  3. Conduct searches and inspections of inmates, their cells, and the facility to prevent contraband and maintain safety.
  4. Respond to emergency situations, such as fights or medical emergencies, and take appropriate action.
  5. Provide guidance and support to inmates, promoting positive behavior and rehabilitation.
  6. Communicate effectively with inmates, colleagues, and superiors to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  7. Report any incidents, rule violations, or safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
  8. Maintain accurate records and complete necessary paperwork, such as incident reports and inmate logs.
  9. Attend training sessions and stay up-to-date on policies and procedures related to the job.
  10. Act as a role model for inmates, displaying professionalism, integrity, and respect at all times.
  11. Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
  12. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Education Requirement: A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required To Be Eligible For A Correctional Officer Position At The State Of Massachusetts.

  • Physical And Mental Fitness: Correctional Officers Must Be In Good Physical Condition And Possess The Mental Fortitude To Handle Stressful And Potentially Dangerous Situations.

  • Completion Of Basic Correctional Officer Training: All Candidates Must Successfully Complete The Basic Correctional Officer Training (Bcot) Program Approved By The Massachusetts Department Of Corrections.

  • Prior Law Enforcement Or Military Experience: While Not Required, Candidates With Prior Experience In Law Enforcement Or The Military May Have An Advantage In The Hiring Process For A Correctional Officer Position.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Correctional Officers Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Inmates, Colleagues, And Supervisors, And Possess Strong Interpersonal Skills To Diffuse Potentially Volatile Situations.
