- Maintain safety and security within correctional facilities by enforcing rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Conduct routine patrols and inspections to monitor inmate behavior and ensure facility is secure.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents within the facility, taking appropriate action to maintain order and safety.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of inmate activities and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and visitors to diffuse conflicts and address concerns.
- Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and common areas to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility, including medical appointments, court appearances, and recreational activities.
- Monitor and control inmate movement and count to ensure accurate accountability.
- Provide guidance and support to inmates, promoting positive behavior and facilitating rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with other correctional staff to develop and implement strategies for maintaining a safe and secure environment.
- Follow all departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws, in performing job duties.
- Continuously assess and evaluate potential security risks and take necessary precautions to prevent them.
- Remain calm and composed in high-stress situations and use sound judgement when making decisions.
- Attend and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Uphold the values and mission of the Department of Corrections while carrying out job duties.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Correctional Officer Job At State Of Georgia Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Can Understand And Follow Instructions.
Completion Of A State-Approved Training Program: The State Of Georgia Requires All Correctional Officer Candidates To Complete A State-Approved Training Program Before Being Hired. This Training Program Covers Topics Such As Safety Procedures, Inmate Management, And Emergency Response.
Good Physical And Mental Health: Working As A Correctional Officer Can Be Physically And Mentally Demanding. Candidates Must Be In Good Physical And Mental Health To Handle The Physical Demands Of The Job And The Stress Of Working In A Correctional Facility.
