Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Psychiatric Technician (Safety) to join our team at Salinas Valley State Prison. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the mental health care of our inmates, ensuring their well-being and safety at all times.   1. Provide mental health care and support to inmates at Salinas Valley State Prison.
  2. Monitor and assess the mental health of inmates on a regular basis.
  3. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists and psychologists, to develop and implement treatment plans for inmates.
  4. Administer and monitor medication as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inmate assessments, treatments, and progress.
  6. Respond to emergencies and crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and following safety protocols.
  7. Conduct group therapy sessions and individual counseling sessions with inmates.
  8. Educate and train other staff members on mental health awareness and crisis intervention techniques.
  9. Collaborate with security staff to ensure the safety and security of both staff and inmates.
  10. Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  11. Continuously monitor and report any changes in inmate behavior or mental health status to the appropriate parties.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  13. Attend training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in mental health care.
  14. Act as a positive role model for inmates and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Of 3 Years Experience Working As A Psychiatric Technician In A Correctional Or Mental Health Facility.

  • Possession Of A Valid California License As A Psychiatric Technician Issued By The California Board Of Vocational Nursing And Psychiatric Technicians.

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of Safety Protocols And Procedures In A Correctional Setting, Including Crisis Intervention Techniques And De-Escalation Strategies.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively With A Diverse Population Of Inmates, Staff, And Healthcare Professionals.

  • Ability To Maintain Accurate And Detailed Records, And To Follow All State And Federal Regulations Related To Patient Confidentiality And Privacy.
