- Conduct surveillance and analysis of public health data, including genomic data, to identify patterns and trends in disease occurrence and transmission.
- Utilize specialized knowledge and skills in genomic epidemiology to contribute to the development of evidence-based policies and strategies for disease prevention and control.
- Lead investigations into emerging genomic health threats in the state and provide timely and accurate recommendations for response.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of public health professionals to develop and implement surveillance systems for tracking genomic health threats.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations to a variety of stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, and the general public.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on genomic epidemiology, providing guidance and training to colleagues and other public health professionals.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and best practices in genomic epidemiology, and incorporate new knowledge and techniques into work processes.
- Prepare and present reports, presentations, and publications on genomic epidemiology research and findings.
- Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze and interpret complex data sets and identify potential risk factors and interventions for disease prevention.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of disease prevention and control efforts related to genomic health threats, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Actively participate in local, state, and national public health initiatives and collaborations related to genomic epidemiology.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in the handling of sensitive and confidential public health data.
- Serve as a leader and mentor to junior epidemiologists and other public health staff, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
Advanced Degree In Epidemiology Or Related Field: A Senior Epidemiologist In Genomic Epidemiology At The State Of California Should Possess An Advanced Degree (E.g. Phd Or Drph) In Epidemiology, Public Health, Or A Related Field. This Education Provides A Strong Foundation In Research Methods, Data Analysis, And Epidemiological Principles Necessary For This Role.
Extensive Experience In Conducting Genomic Epidemiological Research: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience Conducting Research In The Field Of Genomic Epidemiology. This Includes Experience In Study Design, Data Collection And Management, And Statistical Analysis Of Genomic Data.
Knowledge Of Public Health Policies And Practices: A Senior Epidemiologist In Genomic Epidemiology Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Public Health Policies And Practices, As They Will Be Responsible For Developing And Implementing Evidence-Based Strategies To Prevent And Control Disease Using Genomic Data.
Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: This Role Requires The Ability To Analyze Complex Genomic Data, Identify Patterns And Trends, And Draw Meaningful Conclusions. The Candidate Should Also Possess Strong Problem-Solving Skills To Address Challenges In Data Collection, Analysis, And Interpretation.
