  1. Provide high-quality medical care to inmates in correctional facilities.
  2. Promote the health and well-being of incarcerated individuals.
  3. Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations and assessments.
  4. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.
  5. Prescribe medications and monitor their effectiveness.
  6. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans.
  7. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
  8. Respond to medical emergencies and provide urgent care as needed.
  9. Educate inmates on health-related topics and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
  10. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  11. Keep up-to-date on current medical practices and procedures.
  12. Comply with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.
  13. Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, mental health providers, and pharmacists.
  14. Communicate effectively with patients and their families, as well as correctional staff.
  15. Participate in training and continuing education opportunities as required.
  16. Adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  17. Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  18. Provide guidance and support to other medical staff, such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
  19. Collaborate with community healthcare providers for continuity of care.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Job Qualifications
  • Medical Degree From An Accredited Institution: A Physician Working In A Correctional Facility Must Have Completed A Rigorous Medical Degree Program From An Accredited Institution, Such As An Md Or Do Program.

  • Valid State Medical License: In Order To Practice Medicine In The State Of California, A Physician Must Hold A Valid And Current State Medical License. This Ensures That The Physician Is Qualified And Knowledgeable About The Specific Laws And Regulations Governing Medical Practice In The State.

  • Board Certification In A Relevant Specialty: Many Correctional Facility Positions Require Physicians To Be Board Certified In A Relevant Specialty, Such As Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Or Psychiatry. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Expertise And Knowledge In A Specific Area Of Medicine.

  • Previous Experience In Correctional Medicine: Experience Working In A Correctional Facility Or Providing Medical Care To Incarcerated Individuals Is Highly Desirable For This Position. This Experience Demonstrates An Understanding Of The Unique Healthcare Challenges And Needs Of This Population.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Physician In A Correctional Facility Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With A Diverse Group Of Patients And Colleagues. Strong Interpersonal Skills Are Also Necessary To Handle Potentially Difficult Or Sensitive Situations That May Arise In A Correctional Environment.
