As a Disability Adviser, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all.To be successful in this position, you must have a deep understanding of disability-related issues and a strong commitment to promoting disability rights. We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's degree and significant experience in disability services or a related field.   1. Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for students with disabilities, ensuring that their needs are met and accommodations are provided.
  2. Stay up-to-date on disability laws, regulations, and accommodations to provide accurate and timely information and support to students, faculty, and staff.
  3. Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities.
  4. Conduct intake interviews and assess individual needs to determine appropriate accommodations for students.
  5. Develop and maintain individualized accommodation plans for students and communicate these plans to relevant parties.
  6. Provide guidance and support to faculty and staff on how to implement accommodations and create accessible learning environments.
  7. Serve as a liaison between the Office of Accessible Education and other campus departments to ensure that students with disabilities receive necessary support and resources.
  8. Maintain confidential records and documentation related to students' disabilities and accommodations.
  9. Conduct workshops and trainings on disability-related topics to educate the campus community.
  10. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to disability services.
  11. Stay current on best practices in disability services and make recommendations for improvements to the program.
  12. Collaborate with campus and community resources to provide additional support and resources for students with disabilities.
  13. Attend relevant conferences and workshops to continue professional development and stay informed on disability-related issues.
  14. Provide support and guidance to students with disabilities as they navigate the university system.
  15. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, including those with disabilities.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Disability Laws And Regulations: A Strong Understanding Of The Americans With Disabilities Act (Ada) And Other Relevant Laws And Regulations Is Essential For A Disability Adviser At Stanford University. This Includes Knowledge Of Disability Accommodations, Accessibility Standards, And Best Practices For Supporting Students With Disabilities.

  • Experience In Higher Education: Candidates Should Have Experience Working In A Higher Education Setting, Preferably In A Disability Services Or Student Support Role. Familiarity With The Unique Needs And Challenges Of Students With Disabilities In A University Environment Is Important For Effectively Serving This Population.

  • Strong Communication Skills: As A Disability Adviser, Effective Communication Is Crucial In Working With Students, Faculty, And Staff. This Includes The Ability To Listen Actively, Explain Complex Information In A Clear And Concise Manner, And Advocate For Students’ Needs.

  • Counseling And Advising Experience: The Office Of Accessible Education At Stanford University Provides Support And Guidance To Students With Disabilities. Therefore, Candidates Should Have Experience In Counseling And Advising, With A Focus On Providing Individualized Support And Developing Accommodation Plans.
