- Manage and maintain the organization and accessibility of the California Historical Society Collections at Stanford University.
- Preserve and protect historical materials by adhering to archival and library principles and best practices.
- Develop and implement strategies for organizing, cataloging, and digitizing materials to ensure their long-term preservation and accessibility.
- Collaborate with colleagues to acquire, process, and catalog new materials for the collections.
- Conduct research and provide reference services to assist patrons in accessing and utilizing collection materials.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and diverse stakeholders to promote inclusivity and diversity in the collections.
- Create and implement outreach programs to engage the public and promote the collections.
- Stay informed about current developments and trends in the archival and library fields to ensure the collections are managed in accordance with industry standards.
- Train and supervise volunteers and interns to assist in archival and library tasks.
- Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts to support the preservation and promotion of the collections.
- Represent the California Historical Society Collections at conferences, workshops, and other professional events.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of collection materials and activities.
- Collaborate with other departments and institutions to coordinate exhibitions and events featuring the collections.
- Continuously evaluate and improve collection management processes and procedures.
- Uphold ethical and legal standards for the use and handling of sensitive materials.
Master's Degree In Library And Information Science Or Archival Studies: Candidates Should Possess A Graduate Degree From An Accredited Program In Library And Information Science Or Archival Studies. This Will Ensure They Have The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Manage And Preserve Historical Collections.
Experience In Archival Processing And Preservation: The Archivist/Librarian Should Have Experience In Processing And Preserving Archival Materials, Including Knowledge Of Archival Standards And Best Practices. This Is Essential For The Proper Care And Management Of The California Historical Society Collections.
Knowledge Of California History: A Strong Understanding Of California History Is Crucial For This Position. The Archivist/Librarian Should Have A Broad Knowledge Of The State's History, Including Its Diverse Cultural And Social Landscapes, In Order To Properly Contextualize And Interpret The Collections.
Strong Research And Reference Skills: The Archivist/Librarian Should Possess Excellent Research And Reference Skills To Assist Researchers And Users Of The Collections.
