Job Description

Welcome to Red Hat! We are looking for a talented and dedicated Software Maintenance Engineer to join our RHEL Sustaining Engineering team at our Brno office in the Czech Republic. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, reliability, and ongoing development of our Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) software. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about technology and have a strong background in software engineering, specifically in RHEL. If you have a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a desire to work in a dynamic and challenging environment, we would love to hear from you.

  1. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) software, including its features, functionalities, and codebase.
  2. Conduct thorough and comprehensive testing of RHEL software to identify and resolve any bugs or issues.
  3. Collaborate with other members of the RHEL Sustaining Engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.
  4. Work closely with the development team to provide feedback and suggestions for improving the stability, reliability, and performance of RHEL software.
  5. Proactively monitor customer-reported issues and provide timely and effective solutions to ensure customer satisfaction.
  6. Participate in the release and maintenance of RHEL software updates and patches.
  7. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in software engineering, specifically in the RHEL environment.
  8. Document all maintenance and troubleshooting processes in an organized and accessible manner.
  9. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to provide updates and resolutions on software issues.
  10. Continuously evaluate and improve processes and tools used in the RHEL Sustaining Engineering team to increase efficiency and productivity.

Job Qualifications

  • Proficient In Red Hat Enterprise Linux (Rhel): A Software Maintenance Engineer At Red Hat Must Have A Strong Working Knowledge Of Rhel And Its Various Components. This Includes Understanding The Architecture, Installation, Configuration, And Troubleshooting Of Rhel.

  • Experience In Sustaining Engineering: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Previous Experience In Sustaining Engineering, Which Involves Providing Ongoing Support And Maintenance For Software Products. This Includes Identifying And Fixing Bugs, Addressing Customer Issues, And Ensuring The Stability Of The Product.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Software Maintenance Engineers Must Possess Excellent Problem-Solving Skills To Troubleshoot And Resolve Issues Efficiently. This Includes The Ability To Analyze Complex Problems, Identify Root Causes, And Implement Effective Solutions.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: As A Member Of The Rhel Sustaining Engineering Team, Effective Communication Is Crucial. The Candidate Should Be Able To Communicate Technical Information Clearly And Concisely, Both Verbally And In Writing, To Various Stakeholders, Including Customers And Internal Teams.

  • Bachelor's Degree In Computer Science Or A Related Field: A Bachelor's Degree In Computer Science Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For This Role. This Educational Background Provides A Solid Foundation In Software Engineering Principles And Practices, Which Is Essential For A Software Maintenance Engineer.
