- Perform blood collection procedures with precision and accuracy in accordance with established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Interact with patients in a professional and empathetic manner to ensure their comfort and satisfaction during the blood collection process.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper disposal of hazardous materials and biohazardous waste.
- Accurately label and document all collected specimens and ensure proper handling and transportation to the laboratory.
- Utilize excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare providers and laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate test results.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA regulations, to ensure patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Handle and resolve any patient concerns or issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Continuously monitor and maintain inventory of necessary supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with industry developments and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment by working well with team members and actively participating in team meetings and trainings.
Certification As A Phlebotomist: A Candidate Must Possess A Valid Certification From A Recognized Organization Such As The National Healthcareer Association (Nha), American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp), Or The American Medical Technologists (Amt).
Experience In Venipuncture And Specimen Collection: A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience In Performing Venipuncture And Specimen Collection Is Required. This Should Include Knowledge Of Different Collection Methods, Proper Specimen Handling And Labeling, And Infection Control Protocols.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology And Laboratory Procedures: A Phlebotomist Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology, Laboratory Procedures, And Equipment Used For Specimen Collection And Processing. This Includes Knowledge Of Different Types Of Tubes, Additives, And Anticoagulants.
Excellent Communication And Customer Service Skills: As A Phlebotomist, One Must Interact With Patients Daily. Therefore, Good Communication And Customer Service Skills Are Essential In Building Trust And Ensuring A Positive Patient Experience.
Attention To Detail And Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Quest Diagnostics Is A High-Volume Laboratory, And Phlebotomists Are Expected To Collect And Process A Large Number Of Specimens Each Day. Strong Attention To Detail And The Ability To Work Quickly And Accurately Are Crucial Qualifications For This Role.
