Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Archivist for Metadata and Discovery to join our team. As the Archivist, you will play a crucial role in organizing and providing access to our vast and diverse collections. With your skills in metadata management and information organization, you will help ensure that our collections are discoverable and accessible to researchers and the public.   1. Manage and maintain the metadata for all collections within the institution, including updating, organizing, and standardizing metadata in accordance with industry standards.
  2. Develop and implement policies and procedures for organizing and managing metadata, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all collections.
  3. Collaborate with other archivists and staff to ensure that all collections are properly described and discoverable through various platforms and databases.
  4. Conduct regular audits and quality checks of metadata to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  5. Work closely with researchers and the public to provide guidance and assistance in accessing and utilizing collections through metadata.
  6. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in metadata management and implement best practices within the institution.
  7. Assist in the development and implementation of digital preservation strategies for electronic records and materials.
  8. Create and maintain documentation and user guides for metadata and discovery processes.
  9. Train and supervise interns and volunteers in metadata management and discovery tasks.
  10. Collaborate with other departments and institutions to share and exchange metadata for collaborative projects.
  11. Participate in outreach and promotional activities to promote the institution's collections and increase public awareness.
  12. Adhere to ethical standards and practices in the management and dissemination of sensitive information within collections.
  13. Participate in collection development and acquisitions processes to ensure that metadata standards are considered and met for new collections.
  14. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all metadata and discovery processes for reporting purposes.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve metadata and discovery processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications
  • A Degree In Library Science, Information Science, Or A Related Field With A Focus On Metadata Management And Organization.

  • Experience Working With Metadata Standards Such As Dublin Core, Mods, And Ead.

  • Familiarity With Discovery Systems And Cataloging Tools, Such As Oclc Connexion And Library Of Congress Subject Headings.

  • Knowledge Of Archival Principles And Best Practices, Including Appraisal, Arrangement, And Description Of Archival Materials.

  • Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills, As Well As Attention To Detail And Accuracy In Metadata Creation And Management.
