- Provide accurate and timely interpretation services for Spanish-speaking patients and healthcare providers during medical appointments.
- Facilitate effective communication between patients and healthcare providers to ensure understanding of medical procedures, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of ethics while interpreting.
- Serve as a cultural liaison between patients and healthcare providers to promote cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Collaborate with medical staff to develop and maintain a glossary of commonly used medical terms in Spanish.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to stay updated on medical terminology and procedures.
- Build and maintain relationships with Spanish-speaking patients to promote trust and comfort.
- Assist with scheduling appointments and coordinating interpreter services for non-English speaking patients.
- Conduct follow-up calls with patients to ensure understanding and satisfaction with medical care.
- Collaborate with other interpreters and healthcare providers to improve the quality of interpretation services.
- Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality policies and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Continuously strive to improve and enhance interpretation skills through self-evaluation and feedback from colleagues.
- Participate in team meetings and discussions to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions.
- Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their needs are met and their voices are heard.
- Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided.
Fluency In Spanish And English: A Qualified Candidate For A Spanish Medical Interpreter Position At Providence St. Joseph Health Must Possess Native Or Near-Native Proficiency In Both Spanish And English, With The Ability To Accurately Interpret Medical Terminology And Concepts In Both Languages.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: In Addition To Language Proficiency, Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology In Both Spanish And English. This Includes A Thorough Knowledge Of Anatomy, Diseases, Treatments, And Procedures, As Well As The Ability To Accurately Interpret Complex Medical Information.
Certification: Providence St. Joseph Health May Require Candidates To Hold A Certification From A Recognized Professional Organization, Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi).
Cultural Competence: As A Healthcare Organization, Providence St. Joseph Health Values Cultural Competence In All Employees, Including Medical Interpreters.
