Working on computational modeling of various materials under high temperature annealing and laser irradiation. I lead the simulation studies while the rest of the group works on experimental fabrication and characterization of single crystals inside glasses.

Postdoctoral Researcher

Computational simulations over a wide range of non-crystalline materials (glasses, coal, chalcogenides, coatings, etc) using first principles calculations with DFT. This was often complemented with classical simulations that allowed simulation over a larger length and time scales.

Dr. Rajendra Thapa is a Research Associate in my group. In this position he has been leading materials theory work. He has provided conceptual insight supported by atomistic simulations to the experimentalists in the group including several graduate students, even myself.

I was his PhD adviser. A smart devoted person who it was my privilege to supervise. He learns whatever he needs quickly, and won various internal awards. Also kind and easy to work with. he was highly productive publications, the "Amorphous Graphite" paper caught a great deal of attention and was featured on about 30 popular science sites.
