I worked in Dr. Mark Crocker's lab at the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research. We grew green algae as a way to capture flue gas carbon and recycle it in the form of renewable energy or plastic. Later, we expanded by testing an experimental method for washing nitrogenous wastes into algae cultures for fertilizer. Our designs are being used at Duke Energy's East Bend Station in Boone County, KY.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I worked a quality control role at Eurofins Microbiology. We would receive food samples from clients, prepare them with growth medium, incubate, then perform a variety of tests on them. The most common tests were petri-films, plate counts, and PCR. We counted and identified colonies on petri-films and plates. We also identified the presence of specific pathogens using PCR. All of this data was recorded in LIMS management software.

Laboratory Technician

I primarily trained young people (aged 13-17) who were nervous to begin working out. I also taught older people who wanted to become healthier later in life as well as group classes. My approach was based around positive feedback and gentle critiques. I don't believe in the tough training methods of other trainers— rather, I believe that a person has to learn how to push themselves instead of having somebody else push them.

Certified Personal Trainer

I was affiliated with Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and therefore could not go into the lab in person. However, the other interns and I worked on research proposals that sought to investigate one of the NIH's provocative questions in cancer research. My topic was the effect of intermittent fasting on the progression of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
