Hello! My name is Jana, and I am a recent graduate in Psychology. I am extremely passionate about reaching populations that have been overlooked by services in the field of mental health, and advocating for the awareness of environmental and internal stressors that come along with non-affirming settings. I would like to further examine mental health difficulties and strategies through scientific investigation and evidence-based processes.

I had a wonderful experience completing my Bachelor's degree in Psychology at SIUE.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

As an URCA Associate, I worked on creating and executing my own research project. I began with hypothesizing and thesis development, then moved on to drafting my paper highlighting previous literature reviews, methods, procedures, scales and so on. I then recieved an IRB certification and began recruiting participants through both MTURK and Qualtrics. After finishing data analysis in SPSS and finalizing my research paper, I presented my findings in various professional settings.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) Associate

Worked on a research staff investigating early prediction symptoms of Autism and Down Syndrome in infants, adolescents and probands.
Shadowed and administered behavioral testing on infants and their families, as well as in neuroimaging sessions that included EEG and MRI scans.
Made appointment folders, administered phone interviews and screenings, as well as logged information into databases.

Professional Rater I

The center fulfills their mission through utilizing a collaborative and holistic trauma-informed method of counseling treatment, as well as educating and supporting caregivers. Their evidence-based therapeutic model includes CBT, creating art, music, and free play. Their process allows for children to understand and cope with the behavioral and emotional effects of their negative experiences and increase their skillset for coping strategies. My responsibilities during revolved around updating existing documents and creating new ones, such as an authorization form and a yearly school district calendar. Mainly, I was able to supervise the weekly parenting education groups which are cycles of ten sessions each, with every class delving into a topic relating to a different behavior, psychological tips, child discipline strategies and more. I was able to sit it on and perform intakes, as well as enter the respective information into the Apricot database that Refuge uses to organize parenting classes. I particularly enjoyed being able to play with and accompany children in the waiting room when given the chance.

Intern

Before issues of the Alestle newspaper are published, copy editing is required in order to check for grammar, AP style errors, structure and more. My duties in reporting consisted of interviewing, covering events and news, as well as writing the articles themselves.
